She Shines

She shines

he says to me

like she was dipped in gold

and sprayed in sparkles

blasted with sun rays

blow dried with stars

like God came down

from his perch in the sky

to touch her cheek

and press light into her skin

like she was born

from the dark earth

where the diamonds grow

and the crystals fused to her body

like suddenly all

the bright things of the world

gave up their brilliance

to her

the rest of the globe

plunged into a wealth of darkness

that now emanates from within

so far below the surface

unable to detach

a virus that spreads from the heart

She consumes all

She is all that matters

This is what he tells me

in his own roundabout way

and I feel it

in my chest

the thumping that starts to blacken

a disease that rots

until I am just a shell

that smiles as he says

She shines.
