Noah: So why are we here?
Me: To understand what it means to be human. Duh. So you just got into a car accident with your 12-year-old sister in the passenger seat. What’s going through your head right now?
Noah: Well, I’m like, what the hell was that weird man in the middle of the road and I’m just kind of worried about my sister. You see, Felicity’s one of these girls that makes a lot of jokes but is actually really sensitive. I’m pretty sure we have our parents to take for that one. She’s super popular at school, but I don’t think she likes a lot of her friends.
Me: That’s all well and good, but I don’t really care about your sister. What do you think the man was doing there? Have you no conception of your own fate?
Noah: Uhhh… no? Isn’t that the point of life? That you don’t know what the outcome is going to be? Anyway, I don’t know what the man is but I think I saw him last night when Silas left the diner.
Me: Why do you think Silas left? Why do you think he was so mad?
Noah: Heck if I know. I mean, I guess the waitress was going a little over the top, but that’s no reason to get mad at me. Besides, what Jesse doesn’t know won’t kill her.
Me: Wow, you suck at being a boyfriend. Back to the odd man in the mist. Do you think he has something to do with the man you saw when you and Silas first met? The one you were drawing in your notebook?
Noah:… No. All that is behind us now. He’s gone from my mind and he’s never coming back. It was just a drawing. It was purely coincidence that Silas knew a guy that looked like him. That’s all. Silas said it himself.
Me: But are you sure-
Noah: He’s never coming back and that’s final. I’m done here.
