Emily's Poem #27 - "Distance"

How would I describe our distance?

Well, it feels like we're on two sides of a canyon

With a rushing river waiting to swallow us both up

Or we're like "Alice Through the Looking Glass"

As in we're in completely different worlds

Yet still face to face in the mirror

Maybe I'd describe us as planets

Orbiting past each other every now and again

With only so much time before we have to go away

But this isn't a metaphorical distance, oh no

This is physical

It's how far away I feel from you

But mentally we're practically one in the same

We're one mind, one soul

Maybe even one body too

Because when you hurt I hurt

When I cry you cry

When you smile I smile

Walking down the street you're holding my hand

Going to bed I snuggle into your arms

And waking up without you every morning is a constant struggle

We're like the earth and the moon

One cannot exist without the other

And guess what?

I'm okay with that.
